About Wide World RV Center, Inc.
Our Humble Beginnings
In 1962, Guy and Joan DiAndriole, founders of Wide World RV Center, Inc., bought their very first trailer which was a Serro Scotty aluminum-sided camping trailer. Guy and Joan wanted to have some family fun with their three daughters so they set out for their first camping experience. Having so much fun as a family, Guy and Joan quickly realized they could make this a business. In 1966, the DiAndrioles visited a travel trailer show to meet with representatives for Apache and Norris camping trailers; Old Forge Travel Trailers Sales was born. In 1967, with no zoning laws to contend with, the family's three-car garage became the office, service center, and store for Old Forge Travel Trailers Sales. Their first trailers, five Apache popups, and three Norris travel trailers were set up in their backyard in Old Forge, PA.
Their small trailer business might have stayed in the family backyard indefinitely had it not been for a natural disaster. On June 23, 1972, hurricane Agnes-one of the largest hurricanes on record-hit Wilkes Barre, PA. area. For the first time, HUD (which is now FEMA) used travel trailers as residential homes for people to live in during the interim. HUD purchased 85 trailers from Old Forge Travel Trailer Sales. This opportunity, in the midst of tragedy, allowed the business to relocate to its current location in Wilkes Barre, PA. In addition, the business renamed and incorporated itself as Wide World RV Center, Inc. The DiAndrioles continually sought a niche to bridge the off-season gap, at one point selling bicycles, CB radios, chainsaws, wood-burning stoves, and even riding mowers.
Years ago, the dealership introduced enclosed cargo trailers, utility trailers, and dump trailers which proved to be an ideal combination with the RV. In addition, we were the first dealer in the area to introduce toy haulers. This winning combination filled the gap between seasons and set up Wide World RV Center, Inc. to be a 12-month, 6 days a-week business. Now, everything Wide World RV Center, Inc. sells is towable.
Today, Wide World RV Center, Inc. happily passed the torch and legacy from father and mother to their three daughters who shared in that first camping experience so many years before.
Another essential ingredient to their business model is the full service it provides to all its customers. Even in the early years, when they operated out of the family's backyard, they serviced what they sold. "We do wiring, install hitches, and make repairs. The expertise of our service department is second to none. We can handle any repair and maintenance problem you may have!"
Financial service is also a key element to our dealership's full-service by offering any customer a plan that works for them, so that they may share in the fun that comes from being an RV family." The parts department reflects a third aspect of the dealership's success. Space is maximized with a full and diverse assortment of necessary RV and Trailer products making the dealership the largest parts store in the area. With Customer Service first and foremost we have an On-Site Insurance Agency to assist our customers with insuring their new purchase.
